It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we celebrate the memory of a remarkable man, Sean Couch, 57, who passed away after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Nashville, Arkansas to Coyce and Twyla Couch. As the son of a preacher, his early years were spent moving between various towns, a life that shaped his outgoing nature and gifted him with a lifetime of making lifelong friends and unforgettable memories everywhere he went.

He met the love of his life while attending Central Baptist College, where he famously accumulated far more memories of daredevil exploits than hours spent studying. Together they built a life rooted in devotion. He loved his wife, Valerie, and son Parker deeply, standing every day as the ultimate protector and provider for his family. That same deep care extended to his mother, whom he cherished and looked after with steadfast dedication throughout his life.

An outdoorsman through and through, he was most at home in the quiet beauty of nature. Whether sitting patiently on a deer stand in the early morning fog or resting on the riverbank with a fishing pole in hand, he found peace, joy, and a deep connection to the land.

Though he earned a degree in wildlife biology from ATU, God had a specific path in mind—closing every door until he answered his true calling in education. He began his teaching career at the Perry-Casa School District before moving to Oden Schools, where he wore many hats as a kindergarten aide, ALE instructor, and bus driver. It wasn't long before he stepped into his true element as the science teacher, bringing textbook lessons to life using his deep knowledge of the outdoors, taking students water sampling along the Ouachita River, and building an aquaculture program to raise fish right on campus. His passion for youth development led him to start Oden’s first archery program—making it one of the very first schools in the state to offer the sport. He also helped launch and coach the school's Trap team and was co-sponsor of the Woods & Waters Club, guiding students on outdoor service projects and unforgettable hunting trips, including pheasant hunting in Kansas. His leadership and commitment to students eventually led him to serve as Oden's elementary principal and later the K-12 principal. He later transferred to Acorn High School to serve as principal, where his pioneer spirit continued as he founded both the Acorn Archery and Trap shooting teams. Though a severe fall resulted in a broken back and forced his medical retirement, his heart remained with the students. He continued to serve the school community behind the scenes, running sound for school concerts and musicals.

Above all else, his most important love was Jesus Christ, and his greatest passion was guiding young people to the faith. Over the years, he served faithfully as a Youth Leader at various churches, a deacon, sound tech and a vocalist on the worship team. He is leaving a lasting spiritual legacy in the lives of countless teenagers. He was a faithful member of Grace Bible Church.

Despite living in physical pain for most of his life, he lived with unmatched grit, determination, and an infectious sense of humor. He never met a stranger, filled every room he entered with a bold and joyful presence, and remained the biggest kid at heart—never hesitating to make those around him, no matter the age, feel seen and heard. He loved to make people laugh! He leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, and unconditional love that will live on in all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Coyce Couch. He is survived by his wife, Valerie, and his son, Parker of Mena. His mother, Twyla Couch of Ozark and his sister Shannon Naylor of Conway. In addition, his family included in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts and an uncle, cousins, and a host of friends considered close enough to be family.

Donations can be made in his memory at the Great Passion Play C/O Kent Butler 935 Passion Play Rd Eureka Springs, Arkansas. www.greatpassionplay.org
